Today’s Salt Lake Tribune is featuring a profile of the new supervisor of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest that makes up the majority of the public lands in the central Wasatch.
His name is Dave Whittekiend and though it appears he’s been an adventure racer for a while, he has his eye on the 2013 Wasatch 100. That’s a route that goes right under the proposed SkiLink which is as stupid of an idea as I’ve ever heard.
If you see Dave out on the trails, say hello and please ask him to help protect our national forests and the trails we all love so much!
Interesting… Hopefully this is a good thing for the Wasatch.
On a tangentially related note, I was recently stopped as I was descending Bowman Fork and asked to participate in a Forest Service use and management questionnaire. I’m curious if any other trail runner’s had the same experience?
Interesting. I’ve never had that happen to me but I’d sure have a few things to say if I was. Glad they caught you, I’m sure you gave all the right answers!
Too bad that the supervisor of the local Forest Circuis district has no power. He is only a minion among politicians. He may be an ultra runner and one of us, but his voice will not be heard. He will be told what to do by those above him. The only way we can have any hope to oppose and defeat SkiLink is to ban together as one very loud voice.
While one man in his position can’t stop SkiLink, I can guarantee you that one man in his position could do plenty of damage if he were so inclined.
He looks like a great guy and I hope to meet him one day.
I agree, though, that the only way to stop that thing is to continue to band together as an overwhelming citizen voice.
